How are home health and hospice different, and who pays for them?
Home health sends nurses and therapists on scheduled visits to a homebound patient under a physician's plan and is usually paid by Medicare, while hospice sends a comfort-focused team to someone expected to live six months or less, paid by Medicare's hospice benefit.
Neither one supplies a caregiver for hours at a time; that is private-duty home care, which Tennessee does not list as a separate HFC license. Some licensed agencies specialize in infusion or pediatric care, so ask what an agency actually provides before you accept a referral.
