CareScout 2025 Cost of Care Survey, Tennessee results (released March 2, 2026). Monthly, hourly and daily figures are our arithmetic from CareScout's published annual medians (annual / 12; home care annual / 2,288 hours; adult day annual / 260 days; nursing home annual / 365). CareScout collects rates by metro area but its Tennessee release publishes statewide medians only, and it does not survey memory care as a separate category.

Tennessee's assisted living median sits below the national figure of $74,400. In the Knoxville region, quotes typically climb with the level of care: most communities price a base rent plus a care tier or points system, so two residents in identical apartments can pay very different amounts. Ask each community for the base rate, the cost of each care level, and what triggers a move to the next one.

What does memory care cost near Knoxville?

No official memory care median exists for Tennessee, because CareScout does not survey memory care as its own category; secured units generally charge more than the same community's assisted living rate because of the added staffing and the locked setting.

Do not let anyone quote you a “Knoxville memory care average” as if it were published data. Ask each secured unit for its all-inclusive monthly rate, what it includes (incontinence supplies, escorts to meals, medication administration), and whether price rises with behavior changes. Stand-alone memory care buildings in Farragut, Hardin Valley, Powell and Lenoir City often use a single all-inclusive rate; secured wings inside larger communities more often add a memory care fee on top of rent.

How much do nursing homes cost in Tennessee?

CareScout's 2025 Tennessee medians are $113,150 a year for a semi-private nursing home room, about $310 a day or $9,429 a month, and $120,450 for a private room, about $330 a day or $10,038 a month.

Few Knoxville families pay these rates for long. Medicare covers the first part of a qualifying rehab stay, and long-term residents who spend down their savings can qualify for TennCare CHOICES Group 1, which pays the home directly while the resident contributes income above the $50 personal needs allowance. The daily figures are our arithmetic from CareScout's annual medians.

How much does in-home care cost per hour around Knoxville?

Tennessee's 2025 median for non-medical home care is about $31 an hour, which CareScout reports as $70,928 a year for 44 hours a week; agencies in the Knoxville area quote by the hour with minimum visit lengths, typically higher for nights, weekends and holidays.

The table shows where home care crosses the assisted living median: past roughly 40 paid hours a week, home care costs more than a median assisted living apartment. That does not settle the decision, because home care also leaves housing, food and utilities on the family's side of the ledger, but it frames the question honestly.

What other costs should Knoxville families budget for?

Beyond the monthly rate, budget for a one-time community fee, care-level increases, medication management or pharmacy charges, incontinence supplies, transportation to appointments, a second-person fee for couples, and annual rate increases; Tennessee requires 30 days' written notice before an ACLF changes its fees.

Adult day health care is the lowest-cost paid support, about $80 a day or $1,733 a month for five days a week at Tennessee's median, and it can delay a move by giving a family caregiver working hours. For a longer view, read paying privately for care.
